Unimpeachable Character
I was once told I have clout. And I have sat with that information to understand what does that really mean and why would I have it?First, I work very hard to say what I mean, even if and when I communicate use flowery language and parables to convey a message in a way my intended audience can understand. I am also quick to clarify if what I said is being misconstrued or twisted. Lastly, I don’t tell people what they want to hear. I don’t make promises I cannot deliver. People trust me because I get back to them. When they call, I return the call. When they ask a question, and I say I’ll get an answer, I get an answer. If they need help, I help without guilt tripping. I work fast, I am open and I tell people what I am allowed to tell them whenever I can.
Kind Candor
There is a difference between kind and nice I think about often. A nice person won’t tell you that you have a booger hanging off your nose, because they don’t want to bring attention to it. I kind person won’t let you walk around with a booger hanging from your nose. I always want to be in the kind camp. I want to give people the awkward, not fun but honest information that will make them be better, look better, do better. I am also blessed to often be able to do it with a wicked sense of humour that takes the edge off what could be a sensitive topic.
Competitive Greatness
I was once told I was cocky. I replied no, this is confidence, I earned this attitude the hard way. I’m good, not perfect. I have a natural curiosity, thirst for information, aptitude and interest in subject matters which come easily for me. But I learned it all for myself. No one has handed me anything. I didn’t start out knowing people or even get an eduction in the spaces I work in. And it’s true– that the more you learn about something, the more you realize you’re a f*kcing idiot. Practice is the game. Everyday is an opportunity to improve on yesterday. The playoffs happen once a year and you spend everyday practicing for that moment, because in the real world the playoffs aren’t scheduled. Market down turns happen, innovations disrupt, sh*t happens you cannot control, and hopefully you have been preparing.
